Opus, a bulky tutorial

Finding myself intriqued with the recently new bulky yarns such as Opus, I found myself wondering what can one make with 42 yds of yarn…

Using a Q hook, I started crocheting and made this ….

and while I was making it, there was this knot….

a knot join and that is no fun, so I recommend winding skeins like this in balls so you can plan around these kind of joins.  That is just what I did, wound it into a ball and tried is again and in the process creating a tutorial for you….

Rnd 1:  Using a Q hook and Opus, ch 40…

take care not to twist and working into the back loop of chain, sc in first 5 chains…

Rnd 2:  Ch 45, sc in 5 sc.

Rnd 3:  Ch 50, sc in 5 sc.
Rnd 4:  Ch 55, sc in 5 sc.
Rnd 5:  Ch 60, sc in 5 sc, holding the ends of the 5 sc together, working through both ends, sl st in each st.

Fasten off and weave in ends.  Voila you have a fun, chunky not to mention cozy necklace….

Now for some bracelets, have you ever seen the Romainian Cord… stay tuned.

Enjoy!

  1. Are you using a slip stitch to create a round before you sc in first 5 chains or just working in the chain without creating a round?
